JSC Mitey Mites

Ski Fast, Have Fun!

Mitey Mites is for U10 and second year U8 athletes.  For the 2024-2025 Season this means they must have been born in 2015-2016 (U10) or 2017 (U8)

New Mitey Mite athletes must be at least a Zone 7 skier as defined by the Eaglecrest Snowsports School.  New athletes will be placed on a waiting list until they can participate in an on-hill evaluation in December to ensure they are ready for the program.

The traditional Mitey Mites program on Saturday mornings is primarily for U8 (2017) and first year U10 (2016) athletes.

All second year U10 (2015) athletes are STRONGLY encouraged to register for the full Day Mitey Mite Program.

The Mitey Mites program goal is to improve young athlete’s skiing fundamentals for all snow conditions and terrain, develop and learn with peers of similar age and ability and instill fun and enthusiasm for the sport of alpine skiing. We do this against a background of gate training and racing, with an emphasis on participatory fun

Mitey Mite History

Mitey Mites is the Juneau Ski Club's longest running program and is the clubs number one foundation for the club. We like to start them young, get them hooked, and hopefully make a lifelong skier out of them. The success of the Mitey Mite Program shows in the fact that in 2021 out of our coaches more than half started out themselves as JSC Mitey Mites and have stuck come back to the club as coaches.

The program prides itself on giving it's athletes a good balance between the gates and all-mountain skiing. Safety is a huge part of the program and our coaches are trained in keeping kids safe, warm, and having a blast while on the mountain.

Kevin Stell

JSC Head Coach / JSC Program Director

Kevin grew up skiing at Eaglecrest and started racing with the JSC Mitey Mite program when he was 6 yrs old. In high school Kevin moved to Steamboat, Colorado to continue racing and skied with the US Development Team for several years. After that he spent 2 years racing with the University of Colorado NCAA Division 1 ski team. Go Buffs!!

Through ski racing he has been fortunate to travel and race in 9 different countries and at last count about 140 ski areas. Eaglecrest is still Kevin's favorite place to ski and he is happy to call it his home mountain.

When Kevin isn't skiing he enjoys hunting, fishing, mountain biking, and spending time out at his cabin with family and friends.

Nona is a JSC Alumni who started out in Mitey Mites. She came back to the club at age 21 as the Head Devo Coach, then went off to live life, go to college, coach Devos for Alyeska Ski Club and eventually returned to Juneau and came back to JSC as a Mitey Mite coach.

In her free time during the winter she is either on the mountain, working on JSC Social Media, or behind the sewing machine making Eaglecrest neck gators for fellow skiers.

Mike Satre

Mitey Mite Lead Coach / MM Program Director

Mike has been with the club nearly as long as our old-skool logo. He will never be able to leave or we will replace the logo with something that looks like an xbox.

In his free time during the winter he can be found all over the mountain with his family.

He also refused to answer any questions so we basically had to make this all up. Mike is the shy guy with the big booming voice at the award ceremonies who otherwise likes to stay behind the scenes.
